Hi do you get on with the GP (when you can actually see them that is
If so, can you get them to put you on the URGENT patient list so that when the receptionist sees your name that she knows you are not a hypercondriact and need to see GP NOW!
We have a rediculous system at our GPs too of having to ring triage. Even stood 6 ft from the nurse, you have to ring up! Stupid people. Definately item for room 101....

If you know your GP (or your GP knows exactly who you are!) then you can ring and ask to speak to them (say it is concerning your RA and you have to sepak to them) and then ask them to arrange an x-ray asap. I agree it is too long to wait.
I find having to do this so utterly depressing too, but you have to stand up for your rights and your right is to be treated fairly.
Much love,
Amanda

I agree Sylvia - you need to borrow Jenni's red boots - this is your lungs - not just a common cold - you need to know. Try nice discussion with Receptionist and if she does't give you an appointment - ask to speak to the practice manager. If you look up your surgery on the internet, there are often contact details on there now.

Hi Sylvia, I agree with previous posts. No you should not be left hanging on like this and need to be seen sooner. As for the receptionist, s/he is not medically qualified and does not need to know the reason why you need to see a doctor, I've never been asked at my surgery. Come Monday put Jenni's "Red Boots" on and demand an earlier appointment Hope you have a good weekend, love, Barbara XXXXXX

Hi Sylvia
I agree with everyone else. This is just disgraceful. How can you wait for 5 weeks when you may have a serious chest infection? Please ring on Monday and get stroppy or, as I have done in the past at my previous GP, go down and sit in the waiting room and refuse to go until you are seen.
Take care
Love Jeanxxxx

i agree too- you can't wait that long. My surgery is similar with the receptionist. I just don't understand why they allow it. I always exaggerate my syptoms if I feel I'm getting nowhere.
take care

It's not up to the receptionist to decide if you need to see a doc, at the very least you should be able to talk to a nurse in private. Could you ring up and ask to speak to the nurse? I agree you shouldn't have to wait that long, it's ridiculous

Hi Sylvia Pleased to hear that you have been able to get an earlier appointment. Hope all goes well for you on Thursday. I know what the waiting's like ... I seem to be always hanging on for some result or other . Frustrating isn't it, especially in this so called hi-tech world in which we live! Results should be immediate, now that would be a first Lyn x

Hi Sylvia,
Are you taking steroids or had any joints injected with steroids? The only other thing I can think of is underactive thyroid. I don't think weight gain is inevitable with mtx but I suppose it's not impossible!

Oh golly, Sylvia - we must be twins! I, too, am putting on the weight again. However, with me I KNOW it's because I'm stuffing my face again. I've got an appointment with the Sister at the surgery at 1.00pm and together, as she puts it, "we will lick this weight thing once and for all". I have about 5 stone to loose and it's such a daunting prospect and I think it's this realisation which causes me to fail every time I try to loose! I hate looking the way I do - fat and ugly.
I had my chest x-ray yesterday and fortunately there is "nothing sinister there" according to the radiographer. I was beginning to get scared as the coughing fits have gone on for weeks and weeks now. It's just the ever present bronchitis which does clear when the warm weather comes along so there is hope for us both.
Take special care of yourself and I'll be praying that you are soon fully fit again - or at least as fit as we can be with this dratted disease.
Lots of love to you
Jeanxxxx
